Gotta jump on this bandwagon: I'm going to forward this to a couple of friends who need to read this. What you write is true, Lark. I am convinced that fear serves two good purposes: To alert us to real danger (and help us respond), and to help us understand the fear in others. Aside from that, it is a hindrance to loving life and all its inhabitants with open hands, open arms, and an open heart. I have struggled all my life to keep fear at bay, and have often failed. But I have found light in surprising places, too, so I do not regret the failures or the journey. Instead, I remember how total strangers sometimes arrived in my path with the right word at the right time, the hand on the shoulder, sometimes even a hug, all to share the light when the darkness was simply too great for me. Always amazes me how some of the people I love most, I met only once and never got their names, even. But their impact on my heart, on my life, is not blunted in the least by the brevity of our acquaintance.

If I could share a favorite quote, from the movie The Return of Martin Guerre (1982): "We live by the spirit. All else dies."

Wow. Just wow. What a beautiful piece. YOU inspire me, every day. Life is about what we can do, not what we can't, and "to act from a place of love instead of fear" is something we should all strive to do.

This is beautiful, and it meshes so well with what I've been thinking about lately. Fear is always present, but it's not a good enough reason for me to justify not taking action to help others. Just isn't.
