Our Farewell

Everything’s torn down.
Crumbled.
Burnt to ashes.
The beauty you and I built,
all that once was “we”
now transformed..
I look upon the rumble…
deadened by the awe.
Locked in disbelief.

Odd – this sense of calm.
The quiet mourning for our farewell,
the friendship,
in silence dying.
Have we met such a whimpering end?
No door slammed in the night.
No words yelled out in anger.
Just a void.
Just a reaching for the vanished.
The lingering sense
that the world isn’t right.

Am I so easily hated
that leaving carries a toll
barely worthy of consideration?
Tis so.
Never enough.
Never fought for.
Never anything but alone.
